International Handball Federation (IHF)


The International Handball Federation (IHF) is the administrative and controlling body for handball and beach handball.[1] IHF is responsible for the organisation of handball's major international tournaments, notably the IHF World Men's Handball Championship, which commenced in 1938, and the IHF World Women's Handball Championship, which commenced in 1957.

IHF was founded in 1946 to oversee international competitions. Headquartered in Basel, its membership now comprises 209 national federations. Each member country must each also be a member of one of the six regional confederations: Africa, Asia, Europe, North America and Caribbean, Oceania, and South and Central America. Asian Handball Federation (AHF)


The Asian Handball Federation (AHF) is the governing body responsible for promoting and developing the sport of handball across Asia. Established in 1974, the federation operates under the umbrella of the International Handball Federation (IHF) and oversees national handball associations from countries throughout the continent. Its main goal is to encourage the growth of handball at both grassroots and professional levels.

The AHF organizes and supervises major handball competitions in Asia, including the Asian Men’s and Women’s Handball Championships, Asian Junior and Youth Championships, and various club tournaments. These events provide opportunities for players and teams to compete at an international level, improve their skills, and qualify for world championships. Through training programs and coaching courses, the AHF also supports the development of athletes, referees, and officials.

Commonwealth Handball Association (CHA)


The Commonwealth Handball Association (CHA) governs handball within the British Commonwealth. Handball Association India (HAI)


Handball Association of India was founded by Jagat Singh Lohan from Rohtak (Haryana), who was an alumnus of YMCA College of Physical Education of Madras (now Chennai). Lohan was founder of handball, netball and throwball games in India. His efforts during Munich Olympics helped in establishing HFI. The member states were Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Vidharbha and Jammu and Kashmir. He was also elected as first secretary general of Handball Federation of India.

Kerala Olympic Association is the apex body responsible for promoting and developing Olympic sports in Kerala. It works to encourage participation in various sports disciplines, nurture athletic talent, and represent the state in national and international sporting events under the Indian Olympic Association. Kerala State Sports Council is a statutory body formed as per Kerala Sports Act 2000 (Act 2 of 2001).Kerala State Sports Council was established in 1954 under Charitable Societies Registration Act and reconstituted in 1974 for promoting sports in Kerala under the name of Kerala Sports Council. The Kerala Sports Council was dissolved and Kerala State Sports Council came into existence and is at present functioning as per Kerala Sports Act 2000 and Kerala Sports Rules 2008.
